Above & Beyond  28” x 39” Art Quilt (Multiple Awards Won) 2013

Description

Acts of bravery and courage come with the job of a firefighter.  Sometimes they go above and beyond to save animals trapped in a fire.  To pet owners, rescuing a pet is like saving a member of the family. I wanted my art quilt to convey the suspense and hope in this act of compassion.

I utilized a combination of appliqué techniques, thread painting and pigment in my quilt to capture intense color and emotion.

This wall hanging art quilt has won multiple awards including: 2nd Place in the art quilt category at the 2013 Firehouse Quilt Show in Castle Rock, CO; First Place art quilt in the 2013 Fremont County Fair; First Place art quilt in the 2013 Colorado State Fair; First Place art quilt in the 2013 Fiber Fabrications art show, Fremont Center for the Arts (FCA), Canon City, CO; and Judges Choice Award at the 2014 Zonta Artful Women Show, Canon City, CO.
