(Entry in the 2014 Colorado State Fair Special Quilt contest. This quilt won second place. Earlier it won First Place in its category and Best of Show in the Quilt Division at the Fremont County Fair. It also received an Honorable Mention at the 2014 Zonta Artful Women Show in Canon City, CO.)
Every year the Colorado State Fair offers a Special Quilt Contest with a theme that is announced earlier in the year. The theme for 2014 was “How Sweet it is… Buzzing with Bees!” and they wanted a quilt showcasing bees. I was inspired by a friend’s photo of her daughter admiring a batch of Black-eyed Susan flowers. I added the bees.
Construction: Turned-edge applique and raw-edge applique using commercial cotton fabric; sheer fabrics; polyester batting; cotton, polyester and monofilament threads; fabric inks, colored pencils, pastels, 3D embellishments.
