Companions (Tamposati) - SAQA KS/MO-OK Regional Exhibition - 'living-language-land' Inspired - 2024 24x12
Part of a SAQA KS/MO/OK Regional Exhibition, called ‘living-language-land’ Inspired. Inspired by the living-language-land.org project, UK, 26 words, contributed by minority & endangered language holders around the world, reflecting on their relationship to land and nature. Participants created a piece of fiber art inspired by one of the words.
Word: Tamposati: Those born in the Rio Tambo.
Origin: Asháninka, Junín Region, Peruvian Amazon.
Artist Statement: This word identifies those born in the Tambo River, guardians and caretakers of their nature. The Tambo River is a Peruvian river that is part of the Amazon River’s headwaters. In 2009, I visited the Amazon basin area. We visited local Indian villages and met the people that lived there. I saw a young girl with a baby sloth as her companion. Other children had monkeys and colorful parrots with them. They all inspired this art piece.
