Tree of Life (Yii) - SAQA KS/MO-OK Region - living-language-land Inspired - 2024 - 12x24
Part of a SAQA KS/MO/OK Regional Exhibition, called ‘living-language-land’ Inspired. Inspired by the living-language-land.org project, UK, 26 words, contributed by minority &
endangered language holders around the world, reflecting on their relationship to land and nature. Participants created a piece of fiber art inspired by one of the words.
Word: Yii: Tree, wood, medicinal plant.
Origin: Khwedam, Northeastern Namibia.
Artist Statement: Trees are very important to all of us. Trees help clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat to over 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity. Trees are key ingredients in 25% of all medicines. They are also good for our mental health. So, with a light-hearted touch, I present a whimsical Tree of Life.
