Pride – The Lion King 20” x 20” Fiber Art 2016

This fiber piece was created in response to a Cherrywood Fabric Challenge.  We were to create a 20” x 20” masterpiece inspired by Disney’s The Lion King. We were provided with a 4-color fat-quarter set of their hand-dyed fabrics, 3 shades of golden yellow and a dark brown.  We could use only Cherrywood fabrics on the front and binding of the piece, with embellishments of our choice, using at least 60% of the provided fabrics.

I wanted to emphasize the family unit, the lion, lioness and cub. I used a different color golden yellow for each and the brown along with other colors for the lion’s mane and other aspects of each lion.  The fabric, pigments and stitching were combined to develop detail, depth and dimension using my Pigment Patchwork technique.

Construction: cotton fabrics; polyester batting; pigments; cotton/polyester threads.
