Description
Artist Statement: Glimpses of old family photographs, faded with age, bring back memories of youth and the easy means of outdoor recreation. Ah, dreams of the good ol’ days! So, why weren’t we smiling?
This piece was inspired from an old family photograph taken in the summer of 1958. My siblings and I were playing in our yard in Carbondale, Colorado. My twin brother and I are in the Greyhound wagon and my middle brother is on a Push-Pull cart.
I am not sure why we don’t look any happier. Perhaps we didn’t want to stop playing to stay still for a photograph!
Construction: Pigment Patchwork technique (a combination of pigments, fabric and stitching); Raw-edge appliqué using commercial cotton fabric; polyester and monofilament thread; Cotton and Polyester batting; pigment and inks.
