Young Entrepreneur (boy with water donkey) 32” x 48” Fiber Art. 2018.
In the days before water delivery in the early 1900s, a young entrepreneur sells water to households along the Rio Grande. Using his burro, carrying a canvas water bag sealed with wax, he fills it with water from the river. A spigot devised from fitted pieces of a cow’s horn sewn into the bag allows him to fill customer containers, where it was left to allow the water to settle enough to drink. Inspired by a 1917 historical photograph.
Construction: Raw-edge applique using commercial cotton fabric; polyester batting; cotton, polyester and monofilament threads; fabric inks and various pigments.
